Day 2 of 5
THE HISTORY AND CULTURE OF MALI LOŠINJ AND VELI LOŠINJ

After a leisurely breakfast, a guide will assist you in exploring Mali Lošinj, the island’s beautiful main town. Situated in Augusta Bay, this largest Adriatic island town (7,000 inhabitants) was sparsely inhabited until the mid-thirteenth century. By the nineteenth century, it was a leading regional maritime power and the most important Adriatic port after Trieste. The inhabitants of Lošinj, known for their shipbuilding skills, were considered the best sailors in the Mediterranean.

Given its excellent and salubrious climate, Mali Lošinj was designated, in 1892, as a health resort by the Austrian government, a reputation it retains to this day. You will enjoy walking in the famous aromatherapy garden and seeing its herbs and other medicinal plants.

You will also have a guided tour of Veli Lošinj—the village—and its remarkable Tower Museum and Gallery housed in a fifteenth-century circular defensive tower. A permanent exhibit traces the island’s glorious maritime tradition. Also on display is a copy of the ancient Greek sculpture Apoxyomenos. Other exhibitions are featured from spring to autumn.

Return to the hotel. Free afternoon. Dinner at an à la carte restaurant. (Breakfast and dinner are included in day 2.)

Day 3 of 5
HIDDEN TREASURES OF THE ISLANDS

Enjoy breakfast at leisure before a day in nature. Together with our guide you will have an opportunity to explore hidden treasures. We will visit Osor, a small town of only 70 inhabitants—and a glorious past. Here you will encounter an open-air museum with rich historical heritage, from works by the great twentieth-century sculptor Ivan Meštrović to the ruins of the ancient walls, fort, and the first early Christian basilica. We will visit the Osor Archaeological Collection at the Museum of Lošinj. Our next stop will be the small city of Lubenice on the island of Cres. Lubenice grew up around an ancient fort founded approximately four thousand years ago on top of a 380-meter-high ridge that overlooks the Adriatic. Now a small local centre, it comprises forty buildings and seven permanent inhabitants. Buildings in the city are constructed out of the same material as the surrounding cliffs. Two well-preserved extant city gates on the north and south of the city as well a wall in the east can be visited. We will stop for a typical Croatian lunch at the Hibernica Restaurant. Dinner will be at an à la carte restaurant. (Day 3 includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner.)

Day 4 of 5
LOŠINJ TO ZAGREB

After breakfast, we return to the Mali Lošinj Airport, where our private plane and crew will be waiting to fly you to Zagreb Airport (estimated flight time, 35 minutes). From the Zagreb Airport you will be driven to your hotel. Feel free to refresh yourself and relax, or stroll in the beguiling atmosphere of Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, founded in year 1094—and one of Europe’s best-kept secrets. We’ve also arranged a private guided walking tour of some of the city’s highlights, starting from Zagreb’s Jelačić Square and then visiting two historic parts of the old town, Kaptol and Gradec. On Kaptol we will visit the biggest cathedral in Croatia and the famous farmer’s market, Dolac. Our tour takes us to Gradec, better known as Zagreb’s Upper Town, which we will enter through its medieval Stone Gate. You will see the seat of the country’s administrative buildings, as well as historic St. Mark’s Church, whose roof of  coloured tiles is the symbol of Zagreb. Our walk continues to the thirteenth-century Lotrščak Tower and ends at Jelačić Square. There is an option to ride Zagreb’s Funicular, one of the shortest in Europe.

Farewell dinner at the Carpaccio Restaurant. (Breakfast and dinner are included in day 4.)

Suggestions for those who want more to explore more of Zagreb:

Arrange for a romantic welcome dinner in a charming restaurant.

Tour the castles of the Zagorje region.

Visit the offbeat and popular Museum of Broken Relationships, The Croatian Museum of Naïve Art, the cafés of Tkalčićeva Street, Maksimir and Zrinjevac Parks, the Ivan Meštrović atelier, the Botanical Garden.
